Acting Foreign Minister Christopher Finlayson today announced three new appointments to Antarctica New Zealand’s management board.

"Scientist Dr Helen Anderson, Hunter Powell Investments Founder and Director Sharon Hunter, and Kiwibank Chair Rob Morrison are each being appointed to a first term on the board responsible for managing New Zealand’s programme in the Antarctic," Mr Finlayson said.

“Dr Anderson brings extensive public sector experience and a strong scientific background, Ms Hunter has extensive entrepreneurial and business experience, and Mr Morrison will contribute governance, management and operations expertise.

"Icebreaker CEO, and former CEO of Air New Zealand, Rob Fyfe and media relations specialist Tony O’Brien have been re-appointed to second terms on the Board.

"New Zealand Post Group Chief Executive, Brian Roche, has also been reappointed for a second term and will take over as Chair of the Board from 1 December 2015.

“The members of the Board are required to help successfully guide New Zealand’s activities in Antarctica and the Southern Ocean. I am confident that with these new appointments the Board has the right mix of skills and experience to do so,” Mr Finlayson said.

Antarctica New Zealand is a Crown entity funded through Vote Foreign Affairs and Trade. It manages New Zealand’s national programme in Antarctica, including the running of Scott Base.
