Appointments to WorkSafe Board

Workplace Relations and Safety Minister Michael Woodhouse today announced two new appointments to the WorkSafe New Zealand Board.

“These appointments bring a range of new skills and experience to the Board which will be beneficial WorkSafe as they implement the reforms introduced by the new Health and Safety at Work Act,” Mr Woodhouse says.

Nicole Rosie and Jan White will join the board from 30 May for two-year terms.

“Nicole Rosie has broad experience in all aspects of health and safety across a range of industries including manufacturing, dairy, forestry, transport and energy.

“Jan White brings to the board extensive knowledge of the health sector, along with strong commercial acumen and experience leading change in organisations.”

Paula Rose and Chris Ellis have also been reappointed to the WorkSafe Board for three-year terms.

“Both Paula Rose and Chris Ellis have demonstrated a strong commitment to health and safety and are very experienced in their fields.

“Paula will continue to bring her specialist knowledge of safety and systems as well as risk and performance management, and Chris has a very good understanding of New Zealand’s workplace safety environment, including workplace illness and occupational disease.”

WorkSafe is a Crown agent and has an independent board, with five to nine members appointed by the Minister for Workplace Relations and Safety.

Nicole Rosie

Nicole Rosie was Director of Health and Safety at Fonterra Cooperative Ltd for three years and is now Regional Velocity Implementation Manager Global Operations. Her executive experience in New Zealand and overseas covers a range of manufacturing and safety critical industries including dairy, forestry, rail/shipping and energy. Previously she was Manager of Strategic Relationships at Vector Ltd and General Manager of Safety and Strategy at Toll NZ and subsequently Policy and Safety at KiwiRail Group. Ms Rosie is currently a director of NZ Family Planning.

Jan White

Dr Jan White has worked in medical and general management for over 25 years in both Australia and New Zealand. She is currently a board member of Pharmac and Chair of the Central Technical Advisory Service, a shared service agency for DHBs. Previously Dr White was the Chief Executive of ACC for five years, the Chief Executive of Waikato District Health Board/Health Waikato and a founding executive member of the NZ Business Leaders Forum on Health and Safety.

Paula Rose

Paula Rose QSO is involved in governance and consulting. Mrs Rose was the Deputy Chair of the Independent Taskforce on Workplace Health and the NZ Police National Manager responsible for Road Policing. Her leadership of road safety included initiatives to bring about cultural and behavioural change, together with a more strategic approach to regulatory enforcement. She is a member of the Parole Board and a director of the NZ Broadcasting Standards Authority, member of St. John South Island Regional Trust Board, and director of Brackenridge Trust Board. Mrs Rose is also involved with a number of complaints committees.

Chris Ellis

Chris Ellis is the former Chief Executive of Brightwater Group and was inaugural Chairman of the NZ Business Leaders' Health and Safety Forum. He trained as an engineer and has a long track record in the Australasian building products and construction industries. He held general management and executive roles in Fletcher Building before his leadership role at Brightwater Group. Mr Ellis is currently a director of Horizon Energy, Energyworks and the Hiway Group.
