New member appointed to Basin Bridge Board of Inquiry

Environment Minister Amy Adams has today announced the appointment of David McMahon to the Basin Bridge Board of Inquiry.

The Board of Inquiry is considering the New Zealand Transport Agency’s application to construct, operate and maintain a two lane, one-way bridge on the north side of the Basin Reserve.

The proposal is part of the Wellington Northern Corridor Road of National Significance.

Mr McMahon brings resource management planning expertise. He is an Accredited Independent Hearing Commissioner and resource management consultant, with particular expertise in statutory planning and process.

Mr McMahon has been a commissioner on a large number of plan change and resource consent hearings in Wellington, the lower North Island and the South Island. He has been a commissioner on hearings for Wellington’s Overseas Passenger Terminal, and the West Wind and Mill Creek wind farms.

Mr McMahon has also prepared expert evidence for district and regional plans, resource consent and notice of requirement hearings, including a number of infrastructure projects for public and private utility companies.

He has experience with the Board of Inquiry process as a member of the Transmission Gully and Christchurch Southern Motorway Stage 2 and Main South Road Four Laning Boards of Inquiry..

The Board of Inquiry is chaired by retired Environment and District Court Judge Gordon Whiting. The other Board members are social impact consultant James Baines and environmental planning consultant David Collins.

Mr McMahon replaces Christine Foster as the fourth Board member.
