New NZ On Air appointments announced

Dunedin businessman Ian Taylor and media specialist Helen Grattan have been appointed to the board of NZ On Air, Broadcasting Minister Amy Adams announced today.

Current members, Miriam Dean CNZM QC, Ross McRobie and Kim Wicksteed have been reappointed for varying terms.

Ms Adams said both Mr Taylor and Ms Grattan were experienced media professionals who would make a good contribution to the board. 

“Mr Taylor has pioneered digital media advances in animation and children’s content production while Ms Grattan is a highly respected media specialist with extensive experience in the domestic and international content marketing,” Ms Adams says.

“The high calibre of the continuing and new appointees to the board will ensure NZ On Air continues to be well served.”

Both Mr Taylor and Ms Grattan will serve three-year terms.

Ian Taylor

Mr Taylor is the managing director of Taylormade Media and Animation Research (ARL) which has established Dunedin as one of the world centres in the specialist field of computer graphics. Taylormade Productions has produced award-winning children's television programmes and documentaries. In 1991 ARL developed the first real-time yachting graphics package for the America’s Cup. This technology is now widely used for a variety of sports. Mr Taylor was appointed a Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit in 2011 for services to television and business.

Helen Grattan

Ms Grattan commenced her media career in New Zealand first in press, radio, and then in television. She has extensive experience in the management, branding, marketing and licensing of domestic and international broadcast media. She joined Television New Zealand being involved with international sales, established the London office and was a member of the directorate. In 1992 she joined National Geographic to head the International distribution department. Helen Grattan returned to New Zealand in 2003 to establish Hellion a consultancy specialising in management, marketing and distribution of natural history events and factual programs.
