TVNZ and RNZ appointments announced

Broadcasting Minister Amy Adams today announced the appointment of Sussan Turner as a Director of TVNZ and the elevation of Therese Walsh to Deputy Chair.

“As a former Group CEO of Mediaworks, Ms Turner has extensive television and media knowledge and experience and will bring real depth and substance to the role,” says Ms Adams.

“Ms Walsh has been a Director of TVNZ since 2012 and has made a considerable contribution since her appointment. She will provide strong leadership support to the board in her new position as Deputy Chair.

“Together these women bring a breadth of experience and talent to TVNZ and I wish them well as they settle into their new roles.”

Both women have been appointed three-year terms. The TVNZ Board will now have a majority of women members.

The Minister also announced the reappointment of Gary Monk to the Board of Radio New Zealand for a term of six months.

“Mr Monk has been a Director of Radio New Zealand since 2009 and continues to make a good contribution to the board,” says Ms Adams.

Therese Walsh bio

Ms Walsh is Wellington-based and is Head of New Zealand for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015. She is Chair of the International Development Selection Panel for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, director of NZX Ltd, and Trustee of the Wellington Regional Stadium Trust and is member of the Major Events Investment Panel for MBIE. Ms Walsh previously served on the boards of New Zealand Cricket and Save the Children New Zealand. Until 2012, she held the position of Chief Operating Officer for Rugby New Zealand 2011 Ltd. Prior to that she held roles as GM Corporate Services and CFO with the NZRU.

Sussan Turner bio

Ms Turner is Auckland-based and finished her employment as Group Managing Director and Group CEO of MediaWorks in August 2014 after a long and successful career in both radio and television management. She previously worked as Chief Executive for Radioworks and Managing Director for Radio Otago. Ms Turner is a currently a board member of the Well Foundation and she previously served on the boards of Radioworks, MediaWorks, and Tourism Dunedin.

Gary Monk bio

Mr Monk is Auckland based and was first appointed to the RNZ Board in October 2009.  He holds a number of directorships including Intersea Ltd, WHW Holdings Ltd, Argent Group New Zealand Ltd, Glimmer Ltd and Lansea Trading Ltd.  He is currently Chair of New Zealand Light Leathers Ltd (tannery based in Timaru exporting deer leather to Europe, China and the United States of America) and the former non-executive Chair of Mathias International Ltd (privately owned New Zealand company trading in agricultural primary products).
