Wayne Marriott appointed to Heritage NZ board and Māori Heritage Council

Wayne Marriott JP has been appointed to the board of Heritage New Zealand and the Māori Heritage Council, replacing the late Sir Ian Athfield, Arts, Culture and Heritage Minister Maggie Barry announced today.

“I am very pleased someone with the skills, background and community experience of Wayne Marriott has been able to take up these important positions,” Ms Barry says.

“He has extensive experience in the heritage sector, with a community perspective which will make him a valuable contributor to both roles.”

Mr Marriott is currently Manager, Culture and Heritage for Te Rūnanga o Ngāti Awa and serves on the Arts Council of New Zealand Toi Aotearoa.

He is a Council Member for the New Zealand Society of Genealogists; Vice President of the Whakatane & District Historical Society and a Trustee of the Whakatane Historical Society Scholarship Trust.

He has also led museum projects in Nelson and Whakatane and been head of operations at the Museum of Islamic Art in Doha, Qatar.

His term on both bodies will run until April 30, 2017.
