New ACC Board Chair

Minister for ACC Ruth Dyson today announced that Ross Wilson has been appointed as the new chair of the Accident Compensation Corporation Board.

Mr Wilson has been appointed for a three-year term starting immediately.

Ruth Dyson acknowledged the contribution and commitment of Brenda Tahi as interim chair of the Board for the past 10 months and and welcomed Mr Wilson’s acceptance of the role of ACC Board chair. Mr Wilson has previously been deputy chair of the Board.

"Ross has been a long standing commentator and advocate on workplace health and safety, and ACC for many years."

"I look forward to having his skills and experience back on the ACC Board," Ruth Dyson said.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

Ross Wilson is legally qualified and was elected president of the New Zealand Council of Trade Unions in 1999 after 20 years as a union official in rail and port unions.

He was a member of the Advisory Council on Occupational Safety and Health (1985-1991), the Board of ACC (Deputy Chair 1986-1990), and the Tripartite Panel on the 2002 Amendments to the Health and Safety in Employment Act.

Ross Wilson is also currently a member of the Prime Minister's Growth and Innovation Advisory Board, the tripartite Workplace Productivity Reference Group, the Forest Industry Development Agenda, the Hui Taumata Task Force, and the Trans Tasman Leadership Forum.
