PM Announces Dates for the Openings of Parliament

The Prime Minister, Rt Hon J B Bolger, today announced that the Commission Opening of Parliament will be at 11.00 am on Thursday, 12 December.

The State Opening will be on the following day at 10.00 am.

The Governor-General has agreed to these dates on the advice of the Prime Minister.

It is likely the House will not sit after the State Opening until a date in February 1997 which will be nominated in an adjournment motion.
